After School Math and Critical Thinking
Are you looking to develop and enhance your child’s problem solving and critical thinking skills?
Suitable for students in SK – Grade 8. Space is limited as every session has only 2-4 students per teacher
(One day a week)
A one of a kind after-school program where students will experience hands-on use-math activities that provide them not only with critical thinking and skill practice, but also a solid Math foundation. At Addity, children develop questions, observe details, collect information, form explanations and apply their understanding to the world around them while developing their Math Skills.
What is the Use-Math Program?
We help children of all levels build a solid math foundation and develop critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Our dedicated and trained teachers are distinguished by their extensive background in and passion for mathematics. We employ a structured use-based learning approach where our students do not passively receive instruction but actively participate in growing their own knowledge and understanding. Every session, our classrooms transform to create a challenging yet fun environment to learn in. Young children are capable of abstract reasoning and can benefit tremendously from using those higher-order thinking skills. Our systematic QED approach ensures that every question is answered and the answers built upon through structured practice.
For over two years, Addity students have consistently churned out remarkable scores on standardized tests and in national and international math competitions. But achieving top test scores is just one of the benefits of Addity’s program. Our students also see higher grade point averages in school, more confidence, and a strengthening of problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
As educators, we understand that in a typical classroom, enormous differences exist between the weakest and the strongest students as early as Grade 1. Learning styles and motivation is varied as well. This gap in ability, knowledge and motivation unfortunately makes it difficult for the teacher to enrich individual learning effectively in a regular classroom. Cognitive Science research suggests homogeneous grouping is actually necessary for motivating students. While stronger students when not adequately challenged in mixed-ability classrooms might never even be discovered, students who are struggling to keep up are left behind further. Thus, a student enters the Addity program at his or her individual level within his or her grade. Our custom-tailored lesson plans ensure that all students are appropriately challenged. Our students work with other students at the same level in groups of less than five to promote co-operative learning. Our experience has shown that these small groups allow the teacher to effectively instruct students with similar learning needs while promoting a ‘team spirit’.
Moving between levels and even between grades is always a possibility for the motivated.
